Zanni Whether a fool, or just playing one, Zanni is a cunning, swindling servant who was a stock character fundamental to the development of the commedia dellarte. From this single character came the characters of Brighella, Truffaldino, Harlequin, and Punch. Originally dressed entirely in white, the name "zanni" may have derived from "sanniones" the mimes who once animated Rome, or from the Padovan dialectal form of the name Giovanni, "zane" or "zanni", which are synonymous with fool. This marionette stands approximately 18" (44) tall. Price: 250.00 + shipping charges |
