Polichinelle Polichinelle, the French version of the Neapolitan Punch, first appeared at the end of the 1500s in France during the time of Henry IV of Borbone. He is characterized by an enormous humpback and a mask with a giant, hooked nose. In time the mask disappeared, his costume became rich with color and a feathered plume was added to his hat. Looking more like a French captain, his character also changed, becoming more of a rowdy braggart and impenitent liar. Polichinelle achieved great success in the 1700s as a puppet and a marionette. Ours is approximately 31" (77cm) tall. Price: 560.00 + shipping charges |
